Collection and Usage Attributes
Criteria Led Discharge (CLD) is for patients who will require a 'simple discharge'. This means they will usually (not always) be discharged to their own home, have simple on-going care needs that do not require complex planning and delivery, no longer require acute care, and can be separated directly from inpatient ward areas or assessment units.

The process is supported by predetermined criteria which are developed with multi-disciplinary agreement and approved by the authorised admitting practitioner (Consultant, Nurse Practitioner, Midwife or Allied Health professional under whom the patient has been admitted). The authorised admitting practitioner maintains the ultimate clinical responsibility for the patient.

Implementation of CLD allows clinicians other than the authorised admitting practitioner to initiate the separation of patients.
Queensland Hospital Admitted Patient Data Collection (QHAPDC):
Must not be null for separations (formal and statistical) from public hospitals.
Validated against a list of criteria led discharge type codes.
Hospital Based Corporate Information System (HBCIS):
Default is 01 NOT CLD - Authorised (Admitting) Practitioner.
CLD is one of the service delivery models within the Queensland Health Patient Flow Strategy which can improve discharge and improve access to services across Queensland. The ultimate goals of the strategy is to improve the patient journey and experience, reduce delays, increase access to services and provide best clinical practice across the state.
Research has highlighted that by utilising CLD it reduces the length of stay of patients, increases the percentage of discharges before 11am, increases weekend discharges, increases patient and staff satisfaction, increases quality of discharge planning and better utilises clinician's time and skills.
