Guide for Use
The insurer will provide the patient with a claim number when the patient makes a workers' compensation claim. The hospital shall record this claim number as it provides evidence of the workers' consent to release information to the insurer. This allows for costs associated with the episode to be funded by the insurer.

If the claim number is not known or cannot be established, record 'U' for unknown.
Verification Rules
Queensland Hospital Admitted Patient Data Collection (QHAPDC):
Must not be null for admitted patient records where Episode of admitted patient care-compensable patient status is code 1 (Workers' Compensation (Queensland)).
Left adjusted and space filled to 20 characters.
Collection Methods
Public hospitals that do not use an electronic patient management system will need to complete a Motor and Work Injury Interview Questionnaire and provide this information to the facility that records their data.
Comment
The workers' compensation data elements are required for a patient who is a Queensland worker with a compensable injury or illness who has elected to be treated as a public patient by a doctor nominated by the hospital, and are used to substantiate a hospital's claim for reimbursement for costs of providing treatment to a patient for compensable injuries.
