The Emergency Data Collection (EDC) is a monthly year to date collection of patients who have had an emergency stay at an emergency department or service in one of 84 reporting public hospitals. The EDC collects demographic, service, funding and performance information required to meet Department of Health and national reporting requirements.

ED data is accessed through the Queensland Health Enterprise Reporting Service (QHERS) and through the Decision Support System (DSS). Data published online are in the public domain.
Access Constraints
Access to the data can be requested through the Hospital Access Analysis Team in the Healthcare Improvement Unit (HIU) by emailing HAAT@health.qld.gov.au.

Methodology 
Data for sites running Emergency Department Information System (EDIS) is entered at each reporting hospital - As EDIS is an enterprise application with a single database, information is reported straight from the EDIS Reporting Database, which refreshes from the live EDIS Database feeds every 5 minutes or less.

Data for sites running ieMR FirstNet is a manual submission FTP'd every month for inclusion into the EDC.

Reporting Requirements
Hospital and Health Services use the data in the collection to monitor ED activity and performance. The Department of Health uses the data in the collection to monitor ED activity and performance, and to conduct analysis to support service improvement, planning and purchasing strategies. Commonwealth reporting requirements for ED National Minimum Data Sets are identified by the Australian Institute of Health and Welfare. The data from the collection is reported on the Hospital Performance website to provide transparency of activity and performance to the public.
