Description
The Gastrointestinal Endoscopy Data Collection (GIEDC)-Removals is a monthly collection of patients who have been removed from the gastrointestinal endoscopy waiting list in one of 43 reporting public hospitals. The GIEDC collects demographic, waiting list and service information to meet State reporting requirements and for benchmarking, planning, purchasing and performance purposes. The Gastrointestinal Endoscopy (GIE)-Removals Data Supply Requirement outlines the data elements required to be supplied by public hospitals during the reporting month.

Collection and Usage Attributes
Purpose
In Queensland public hospitals, there is a need for uniform and reliable information on the activity, demand and performance of GIE services. A statewide gastrointestinal endoscopy data collection provides Hospital and Health Services (HHSs), and the Department of Health, with consistent and actionable data.

From 1 July 2015, the HHS Service Agreements include a requirement that all in-scope services provide data to the collection according to a minimum data set, outlined in this document.
Scope
A patient is removed from a GIE waiting list when a service request for a surgical procedure has been received and the patient has been wait-listed, and is subsequently removed from the waiting list with or without the procedure being performed. Reasons for removal may include:

-	The procedure has been performed.
-	The patient requested to be removed from the waiting list.
-	The facility removes the patient from the waiting list according to local policy, which may include: where the patient declines an offer of procedure; the patient fails to respond to audit measures despite reasonable efforts to contact the patient; or the patient exceeds a Not Ready For Care time threshold for personal reasons.
-	A designated clinician removes the patient from the waiting list for clinical reasons, such as the patient being deemed not fit for the procedure due to co-morbidities requiring management for stabilisation or investigation.
-	The patient dies.
-	The facility transfers the patient on the waiting list to another facility or an alternative care pathway. Examples include where the facility ceases the GIE service or the patient is outsourced.

When a patient is removed from a GIE waiting list and requires reinstatement, the same service request should be reinstated where possible, in order to continue the patient's waiting time from that previously accrued, with a Not Ready For Care period applied where appropriate.

Statistical Unit
The statistical unit of count for the GIEDC is a service request. A patient should be registered on a GIE waiting list where a request for an elective, non-surgical or minimally invasive GIE procedure has been received and accepted.
Data Submission Guidelines
More information regarding gastrointestinal endoscopy data collection submissions can be found in the manual, which is located: <INTERNAL QH LINK NOT AVAILABLE>
Data Submission Methods
Unit record information is supplied by the 43 reporting public hospitals in electronic format. Data is submitted to the Healthcare Improvement Unit by midday on the 15th calendar day following each reporting month, for all waiting list entries that were removed during the previous month.
Data Submission Dates
Data is submitted to the Healthcare Improvement Unit (HIU) by midday on the 15th calendar day following each reporting month, for all waiting list entries that were removed during the previous month.
Comments
A gastrointestinal endoscopy (GIE) is a procedure using an endoscope to examine the interior surface of the digestive tract to assess, diagnose and treat digestive diseases. The GIEDC collects information on patients who can be managed by placement on a waiting list and whose clinical condition requires an elective, non-surgical or minimally invasive GIE procedure that may be of a diagnostic or interventional nature.
