Verification Rules
Queensland Perinatal Data Collection (QPDC):
Must be a valid ICD-10-AM 12th edition code.
Must not be null when Birth event-labour onset type is code 2 (Induced).
Must be null when Birth event-labour onset type is not code 2 (Induced).
Collection Methods
The main reason for induction of labour should be the reason that the clinician attending the birth believes to be the main reason for the induction of labour being performed. It should be determined at the time of induction and not revised later or selected based on information that becomes available after delivery.
Indications for induction are conditional on an induction being performed. Indications for induction are completed after the Birth event-labour onset type has been coded as: 2 Induced.
For national reporting of the Birth event-main indication for induction of labour (NHDD) data element the following mapping occurs:
ICD-10-AM code O48 (Prolonged pregnancy) is mapped to code 1 Prolonged pregnancy.
An ICD-10-AM code in the range O420-O429 (Premature rupture of membranes) or O418 (Other specified disorders of amniotic fluid and membranes) is mapped to code 2 Prelabour rupture of membranes.
An ICD-10-AM code in the range O240-O2499 (Diabetes mellitus in pregnancy, childbirth and the puerperium) is mapped to code 3 Diabetes.
An ICD-10-AM code in the range O10-O11 or O13-O16 (Oedema. proteinuria and hypertensive disorders in pregnancy, childbirth and the puerperium) or I10-I159 (Hypertensive diseases) is mapped to code 4 Hypertensive disorders.
Note that codes in the range O120-O122 (Gestational [pregnancy-induced] oedema and proteinuria without hypertension) are excluded.
An ICD-10-AM code in the range O300-O309 (Multiple gestation) or O310-O318 (Complications specific to multiple gestation) is mapped to code 5 Multiple pregnancy.
ICD-10-AM code O411 (Infection of amniotic sac and membranes) is mapped to code 6 Chorioamnionitis (includes suspected).
ICD-10-AM code O266 (Liver disorders in pregnancy, childbirth and the puerperium) is mapped to Code 7 Cholestasis of pregnancy.
An ICD-10-AM code in the range O200-O209 (Haemorrhage in early pregnancy), O440-O441 (Placenta praevia), O450-O459 (Premature separation of placenta [abruptio placentae]), O460-O469 (Antepartum haemorrhage, not elsewhere classified) is mapped to code 8 Antepartum haemorrhage.
An ICD-10-AM code in the range Z3551-Z3552 (Supervision of pregnancy with advanced maternal age) or Z356 (Supervision of (very) young primigravida) is mapped to code 9 Maternal age.
An ICD-10-AM code in the range E660-E669 (Obesity and overweight) is mapped to code 10 Body Mass Index (BMI).
An ICD-10-AM code in the range F000-F99 (Mental and behavioural disorders) is mapped to code 11 Maternal mental health indication.
ICD-10-AM code Z352 (Supervision of pregnancy with other poor reproductive or obstetric history) is mapped to code 12 Previous adverse perinatal outcome.

ICD-10-AM code O363 (Maternal care for signs of fetal hypoxia) or O368 (Maternal care for other specified fetal problems) is mapped to code 20 Fetal compromise (includes suspected).
ICD-10-AM code O365 (Maternal care for poor fetal growth) is mapped to code 21 Fetal growth restriction (includes suspected).
ICD-10-AM codes in the range U781-U882 (Supplementary codes for chronic conditions) are excluded from this data element.
ICD-10-AM code O366 (Maternal care for excessive fetal growth) is mapped to code 22 Fetal macrosomia (includes suspected).
ICD-10-AM code O364 (Maternal care for intrauterine death) is mapped to code 23 Fetal death.
