Collection and Usage Attributes
This data element is required to identify the period in which the admitted patient episode of care occurred and for derivation of length of stay. Non-return from leave (mode of separation) is used when a patient goes on leave and does not return to the hospital within seven days. Note that the patient is to be discharged from the date that he/she left the hospital. Some information systems restrict date storage to CCYYMMDD format e.g. Oracle systems.
