This item refers to formal separations, that is, discharge, transfer to another facility, or death. It does not refer to statistical separations/episode of care type changes.
Queensland Perinatal Data Collection (QPDC):
Mother & Baby:
- Validated against list of separation type codes.
- Must not be blank.
- Must be 4 if date discharged is blank.

Baby:
Must be 3 if born alive/stillborn=2.
Note the difference between this item and the Mode of separation data element which relates to episodes of care. This item is collected separately for both the mother and the baby.
