Guide for Use
Code 2 Second of a multiple birth
Stillborns are counted such that, if twins were born, the first stillborn and the second live-born, the second twin would be recorded as code 2 Second of a multiple birth (and not code 1 Singleton or first of a multiple birth).

Verification Rules
Queensland Perinatal Data Collection (QPDC):
Must not be blank.
Must be a value between 1-8.
Must be unique for each mother's Person identifier (UR number) and date of confinement.
Must be consecutive numbers for each mother's Patient identifier (UR number) and date of confinement.
Collection Methods
This data element should be collected routinely for all babies aged 28 days or less.
Queensland Perinatal Data Collection (QPDC):
QPDC forms are marked as to the birth order of a multiple birth. After data is entered for the first baby of a multiple birth (this being indicated as 1 of 2, if twins) subsequent data forms are system generated until all data has been entered for all babies.
Comments
Required to analyse pregnancy outcome according to birth order and identify the individual baby resulting from a multiple birth pregnancy.
Multiple births have higher risks of perinatal mortality and morbidity. Multiple birth pregnancies are often associated with obstetric complications, labour and delivery complications, higher rates of neonatal morbidity, low birthweight, and a higher perinatal death rate.
