Guide for Use
This relates to the last birth and therefore not necessarily the last pregnancy. For example, if the mother has had two previous pregnancies and the last pregnancy resulted in a spontaneous abortion while the pregnancy before that resulted in a caesarean birth, then tick 'Caesarean'.
Code 1: A birth that is achieved solely by the mother's expulsive efforts requiring no mechanical or surgical assistance and where the occiput is the point of reference.
Code 2: Where forceps are applied to assist the delivery process, including rotation forceps, liftout etc. An assisted birth using a suction cap applied to the baby's head, including rotation vacuum. Also known as Ventousse Extractor.
Code 3: Lower Section caesarean section, Classical Caesarean section.
Code 4: Presentation includes other vaginal deliveries not classified above.
