Collection and Usage Attributes
It is recommended that the minimum number of syringe barrels issued per occasion of service is two. This is because most injecting drug users will inject in company and one barrel will likely encourage the sharing of that syringe.

A maximum of 50 syringe barrels may be issued per occasion of service. The maximum number may be increased but only in special circumstances, i.e., where the client has difficulty accessing the NSP service at regular intervals.

An appropriate disposal container should also be supplied.

Code 99 Missing
This code should be used where no attempt has been made to collect/record information from the client.
Check that number dispensed is within the valid range (2 to 50), as per expected injecting practices.
This data element is collected on each occasion of service.

On a paper data collection form, different barrel sizes can be recorded in the same column, with size and number entered by hand.
Collected to monitor service access, levels of service utilisation and types of injecting practices.
