Collection and Usage Attributes
An occasion of service is generally face-to-face but also includes telephone calls where the content of the call comprises some form of intervention or referral. This includes the provision of relevant information or advice and the arrangement of a referral with a client. Equipment dispensed via needle and syringe dispensing machine does not count as an NSP occasion of service.
The programs contribute to efforts to reduce the spread of blood borne viruses including HIV and hepatitis C through the monitoring of service provision, including the distribution of sterile injection equipment. In addition, the programs play an important role as the primary contact point for people who inject drugs to access the health system.
