Queensland Minimum Dataset for Needle and Syringe programs (QMDS-NSP) Data Supply Requirement (DSR), is a description of the minimum requirements for data supplied to the QMDS-NSP.

Collection and Usage Attributes
To enable Department of Health (DoH) and Hospital and Health Services (HHS) to access through a shared repository, information on Needle and Syringe Programs (NSP) client characteristics and activity including consumption of equipment in Queensland. The shared repository supports information sharing and reporting across the state.
All Queensland Needle and Syringe Programs which include:

1. Primary programs which are dedicated to the service of people who inject drugs and employ staff whose primary role is the provision of NSP services;

2. Secondary programs where Queensland Health staff provide needles and syringes as an adjunct to their primary duties (e.g. in Community Health Centres, Accident and Emergency Departments, Alcohol Tobacco and Other Drug Services, etc.);

3. Community pharmacies that provide access to sterile injecting equipment on a commercial basis; and

4. Needle dispensing machines that provide access to sterile injecting equipment in Queensland Health facilities for a small fee.

The QMDS-NSP DSR 2017-18 comprises of NSP activity data within Queensland relating to individual occasions of service.

Data is collected on every occasion of service across 25 NSP facilities in Queensland. However, as per the QNSP policy, a client will not be refused service for declining to provide information.
The QMDS-NSP DSR 2017-18 specifies the minimum requirements for provision of data from NSP facilities to the Queensland Department of Health Communicable Diseases Branch. This includes:

1. Demographic profile and drug injecting information from de-identified clients of those Needle and Syringe Programs in Queensland collecting and submitting data. The data elements can be divided into four groups, a) client data, b) drug use data, c) equipment data and d) interventions data. A facility provider data element is also included.

2. Injecting equipment and disposal container ordering information for all NSP sites in Queensland.

3. Authorisation information on establishment of Needle and Syringe Programs (NSPs) located in Queensland Health facilities and community or pharmacy settings.

4. Face to face or online training provision information for NSP staff.
