Collection and Usage Attributes
PUBLIC FACILITIES:

Hospital and Health Service funding is based on the services provided and an agreed price and methodology of calculation. The state purchases services and in that way provides funding to the Hospital and Health Services. Smaller hospitals and other health services are funded by block grants. (reference: Health funding principles and guidelines 2013-14 p14, Department of Health, July 2013)

Code ABF Activity based funded
Declared public hospitals funded in Queensland via Activity Based Funding (ABF). ABF is a funding framework used to manage how public health care services are delivered across Queensland. Both the Commonwealth and the State of Queensland contribute to ABF funding. Includes Mater hospitals that are funded for public activity.

Code BLK Block funded
Declared small public hospitals funded in Queensland via block funding. Due to an absence of economies of scale, small public hospitals may not be financially under ABF. Queensland's public specialist psychiatric hospitals are also block funded. Both the Commonwealth and the State of Queensland contribute to block funding.

Code STA State funded
Primary Health Centres (previously declared public hospitals by the Commonwealth) wholly funded by the State of Queensland.

PRIVATE FACILITIES:

Code PVT Private funded
Private hospitals that are mainly funded by private health insurance and out-of-pocket payments by patients.
