A valid International Statistical Classification of Diseases and Related Health Problems, Tenth Revision, Australian Modification (ICD-10-AM) 8th edition code within chapter 15 Pregnancy, Childbirth and the Puerperium (O00-O99), from the corporate reference data system (CRDS) ICD-10-AM data set maintained by Statistical Standards and Strategies, Health Statistics Branch.

Examples of these conditions include threatened abortion, antepartum haemorrhage, pregnancy-induced hypertension and gestational diabetes. There is no arbitrary limit on the number of complications specified.
Must be a valid ICD-10-AM 8th edition code in the range O000 to O998.
Such conditions are those regarded by the clinician to affect the management of the pregnancy.

For national reporting of the Female-diabetes mellitus during pregnancy indicator (NHDD) data element the following mapping occurs:
An ICD-10-AM code in the range O240-O249x (Diabetes mellitus in pregnancy), except code 245x (Pre-existing intermediate hyperglycaemia, in pregnancy), is mapped to code 1 Yes.
Absence of an ICD-10-AM code from the above list is mapped to code 2 No.

For national reporting of the Female-type of diabetes mellitus during pregnancy (NHDD) data element the following mapping occurs:
ICD-10-AM code O240 (Pre-existing diabetes mellitus, Type 1, in pregnancy) is mapped to code 1 Pre-existing Type 1 diabetes.
ICD-10-AM code O241x (Pre-existing diabetes mellitus, Type 2, in pregnancy) is mapped to code 2 Pre-existing Type 2 diabetes.
ICD-10-AM code O244x (Diabetes mellitus arising during pregnancy) is mapped to code 3 Gestational diabetes mellitus (GDM).
Complications often influence the course and outcome of pregnancy, possibly resulting in hospital admissions and/or adverse effects on the fetus and perinatal morbidity.
