Collection and Usage Attributes
Code 01 In person
The healthcare provider delivers the service in the physical presence of the patient (i.e. in the same room).

Code 02 Telephone
The healthcare provider delivers the service using a telephone. This includes teleconference.

Code 05 Telehealth - provider
The healthcare provider delivers the service via videoconference. Telehealth - provider should be recorded by the establishment that is delivering the service to a patient that is located at another establishment (either on or off the campus of that establishment).

Code 06 Telehealth - recipient
The healthcare service is received by videoconference. Telehealth - recipient should be recorded by the establishment that is receiving the service by a healthcare provider that is located at another establishment (either on or off the campus of that establishment).

Code 07 Electronic mail
The healthcare provider delivers the service via electronic mail. Includes text messaging (e.g. Short Message Service (SMS)). The following principals should apply:

1. Careful consideration as to whether the use of electronic mail best serves the interest of the patient.
2. Appropriate arrangements for the security of personal information must be made where information is sent or received by electronic mail.
3. Must involve an interaction between at least one healthcare provider and the patient and meet the definition of a non-admitted patient service event.
4. The healthcare provider and patient must interact in a mutually responsive manner within a short timeframe and substitute for a face-to-face consultation. Note that as electronic mail exchange is in place of a face-to-face consultation, there could be multiple exchanges between the healthcare provider and the patient related to the intent of the service event. Even though the period of interaction may be broken it is still regarded as one service event if it was intended to be unbroken in time.

Example: A healthcare provider emails a patient to follow up on the effects of a new medication recently prescribed to the patient. Several emails are exchanged between the provider and the patient over a period of three days in relation to the new medication. The three-day email exchange is counted as one service event as the multi-email exchange is equivalent to what would have occurred during a single face-to-face consultation.

Code 08 Postal/courier service
The healthcare provider delivers the service via postal (including courier) services.

Code 09 Patient self-administered - other
The health service was delivered via a means that does not involve direct interaction with a healthcare provider (however is under the care/review of the healthcare provider) such as home based procedures that the patient (or their carer) self-administers without assistance from a healthcare provider.

Code 10 Patient self-administered - diagnostic monitoring (telemonitoring)
The health service was delivered via a means that does not involve direct interaction with a healthcare provider (however is under the care/review of the healthcare provider) such as remote home based diagnostic monitoring (telemonitoring) that the patient self-administers without assistance from a healthcare provider.
Must not be blank.
The mode is from the point of view of the patient in relation to the healthcare provider who records the service event in the patient's medical record.
