Collection and Usage Attributes
Episode of admitted patient care:
- External cause codes V00 to Y34 must be accompanied by an activity code.
Must be a valid ICD-10-AM 11th edition code in the range U50.00-U73.9.
ICD-10-AM codes are validated against a number of national and state edits (e.g. combination, COF, etc) to improve coding quality.
Queensland Hospital Admitted Patient Data Collection (QHAPDC):
The Activity code is a separate code from range U50-U73 for use with External Cause codes V00-Y34. The activity code is to be sequenced immediately following the Place of Occurrence code.

When multiple Activity codes apply, assign the code appearing highest in the tabular list. For example, cases where sport is undertaken during school or as part of paid work should be assigned the activity code for sport (U50-U71).

For the code range V00-V99 Transport accidents, where the Activity at the time of the accident is not specified as sport, leisure or working for an income, assign U73.9 Unspecified activity.

Punctuation is excluded in QHAPDC.

Queensland Trauma Data Collection:
ATR validation: valid code
ATR correspondence: single
This code must be used in conjunction with an injury code and can be used with other disease codes. The external cause should be coded to the complete ICD-10-AM classification.
If two or more cause categories are judged to be equally important, select the one that comes first in the code list.
Enables categorisation of injury and poisoning according to factors important for injury control. Necessary for defining and monitoring injury control targets, injury costing and identifying cases for in-depth research. This term is the basis for identifying work-related and sport-related injuries.
