Collection and Usage Attributes
If a patient who goes on leave fails to return within the 7 day limit, a Mode of separation code of 09 (Non return from leave) should be recorded, to take effect from the date the patient left the hospital to go on leave.
Must be a valid date.
Must not be null for admitted patient records with leave episode activity.
Must be after the date of starting leave.
Must not be after the separation date.
Must not fall within any other leave periods.
Same day leave is not required.
Leave occurs when the patient leaves the hospital between treatments in hospital for a period of not more than seven days, and intends to return for the hospital to continue the current course of treatment. Patient day charges are not raised whilst the patient is on leave, nor are the days on leave counted as patient days.

If a patient who goes on leave and fails to return within the seven-day limit, a separation should be recorded on the relevant admission form. The date of separation is the date the patient left the hospital to go on leave.

If the patient subsequently returns to the hospital, a new admission is to be recorded. Any leave details are to be deleted in this instance.
Hospitals may report 'leave' for boarders if administrative practices at the hospital require boarders who are temporarily away from the hospital are to be put on leave.

Only report the leave to the SSB if the patient is absent at midnight.

For electronic submissions to the QHAPDC, date values must be transmitted in CTYYMMDD format. For paper/excel form submissions, date values must be input in dd/mm/yyyy format
