Standardisation of public hospital names was introduced 1 July 2008 to reduce the risk of incorrect information being published and ensure that hospitals are described consistently in published media.
Each Queensland public hospital has a unique standardised long name suitable for textual descriptions and a unique standardised short name suitable for use in tables and graphs which must be utilised for all published media (e.g. statistical publications, etc).
Examples of long name:
Facility code 00004: The Prince Charles Hospital
Facility code 00011: Princess Alexandra Hospital
Facility code 00230: Aurukun Primary Health Care Centre
