PHNs were set up to improve patient care and to make health care in Australia more efficient and effective. They are advised by local doctors, health workers and patients in the community.
Maps of the geographical areas covered by the various PHNs can be obtained from the PHN Boundaries page on the Australian Government Department of Health website:
https://www1.health.gov.au/internet/main/publishing.nsf/Content/PHN-Boundaries
Although there are PHN codes for all states and territories, only codes for the Queensland PHNs have been included in the permissible values of this data element.
