The Queensland Hospital Admitted Patient Data Collection (QHAPDC) collects demographic data and clinical information on all admitted patients separated from both public and licensed private hospitals and private day surgeries in Queensland.

Collection and Usage Attributes
To collect demographic data and clinical information on all admitted patients from all public acute and psychiatric hospitals and licensed private hospitals and day surgery units within Queensland. Information is used for national and state reporting.

Queensland
Demographic and diagnostic information. Data is supplied on an 'episode of care' basis - where data is supplied for each formal separation (discharge, transfer or death of the patient) or statistical separation (on change of episode type). Almost two million records are received per year.
All public acute and psychiatric hospitals and licensed private hospitals and day surgery units in Queensland.
Data is published in Australian Hospital Statistics, an annual publication of the Australian Institute of Health and Welfare.
Data collected on a monthly basis and finalised on a financial year basis.
PROTECTED
Annual files are supplied to units within Queensland Department of Health.

Ad hoc requests for data are handled by the Statistical Reporting and Coordination Unit, Statistical Services Branch.
Unit record information is supplied by facilities in electronic or hard copy format, for all patients separated during the reference month. Data are required at Statistical Collections and Integration Team within 5 weeks of the reference month, and preliminary output is now available within 2 months.

The collection supports the management of data for the Admitted Patient Care NMDS and Elective Surgery Waiting Times NMDS.
There is a service agreement in place between the Department of Health and each Hospital and Health Service (HHS) for the provision of admitted patient data on a monthly basis. Licenced Private Facilities are also required to provide admitted patient data on a monthly basis to the Chief Health Officer (Section 144 Private Health Facilities Act 1999).

Under the National Health Reform Agreement information is supplied on a quarterly basis to the Independent Hospital Pricing Authority for determining the efficient price of health services provided by public hospitals, the National Health Funding Body for funding of public hospital services and the National Health Performance Authority for reporting of performance indicators.

Information is supplied on a annual basis to the Australian Institute of Health and Welfare under the Health Information Agreement and the Australian Department of Health and Aged Care under the National Healthcare Agreement.
Collection based on episodes of care from July 1995.

Sub and Non-Acute Patient (SNAP) Module added from 1 July 1999.
Diagnostic details coded in ICD-10-AM from 1 July 1999.
Palliative Care and Dept of Veterans' Affairs modules added from 1 July 2000.
Workers Compensation Module added from 1 July 2005
Telehealth module added from 1 July 2011.
