Collection and Usage Attributes
All patients are considered acute patients on first presentation to hospital for a particular condition. After a qualifying period of 35 days, the patient may be eligible for a change in status to nursing home type, if the treating doctor has not completed an acute care certificate. Note that the 35 day qualifying period may accrue in more than one hospital (public or private or both). Patients who go on leave or are separated from hospital but readmitted within seven days, may continue accruing their 35 days. Patients who leave hospital and do not enter another one for at least seven days will begin at Day 1 on next admission to hospital. Note that leave days and days out of hospital do not count in accruing the 35 days.
